    Q.  What Safety Tips should I be aware of when burning my candle?

    A.  By following the Candle Safety Tips below you can be assured to have a safe and enjoyable candle burning experience.

    • Never leave a burning candle unattended. Always keep it in your sight.

    • Never burn a candle on or near anything that might catch fire.

    • Keep candles out of the reach of children and pets.

    • Always use an appropriate candleholder and place it on a stable, heat-resistant surface.

    • Read the label and follow the manufacturer's use and safety instructions carefully.

    • Keeping your wick trimmed will prevent smoking, soot and high flame. Make sure no trimmings are left in the wax.

    • Burn candles in a well-ventilated room, but away from drafts and air currents.  Drafts will cause your candles to burn unevenly and may present a fire hazard.

    • Extinguish any candle if it smokes, flickers repeatedly, or the flame becomes too high.  Cool, trim the wick, check for drafts, and re-light.

    • Don't allow the flame to come too close to the holder or container.

    • For a margin of safety, discontinue using a candle when it is within 2 inches of the holder or ½ inch of the container bottom.

    • Never move a lighted candle, and never move a votive or container candle when the wax is liquid.

    • Extinguish a pillar candle if the wax pool approaches the outer edge.

    • Place lighted candles at least 3 inches apart.

It is always the responsibility of the consumer to make sure they are properly burning the candles.  Remember to treat all candles with respect.

    Q.  Are there any Candle Care Tips that will help me ensure that I get the most enjoyment out of my candle.

    A.  The following Candle Care Tips will help to ensure that you candle burning experience is complete and that you get the most out of your candles

Candles have a great memory. That's why the first time you burn your new candle is so important. It is recommended that you allow your candle to burn until the melt pool reaches the outer edge of the jar. On an average it takes about 1 hour per inch of the candle's diameter. A complete first burn will allow your candle to have the longest burn life. After the initial burn, allow your candle to burn no more than 4 hours at a time.

            * Never burn your candle for more that 4 hours at a time.

Store candles in a cool, dry place to prevent fading and fragrance loss.

Even though our candles smell good enough to eat... PLEASE DON'T!

If an off center wick is causing your candle to burn unevenly, use a metal spoon to gently push the wick back to the center while the wax is still soft.

If your wick smokes after being put out, dip a toothpick into the wax and touch the tip of the wick.

    Q.  I cut my wicks too short and my flame is too low.

    A.  If in the event that you cut the wicks too short, do not panic. Sometimes it happens. Most of instances the candle will “right its self” after burning for a little while.

If the candle tunnels as a result, simply scoop out the wax that did not melt and create a level surface again.

    Q.  I cut the wicks so short and I can’t light the candle at all.

    A.  This is a rare occurrence but if you are unable to light the candle because you cut the wicks too short, gently dig around the wick with a wick dipper, butter knife or back end of a spoon.

*Note: The wicks will burn the wax that is beside them not the wax above.

This is why it is important to allow any candle to liquefy across the top before you blow it out. You should not have “steps” in any candle (showing every time you burned it) if there is wax clinging to the jar above the flame (tunneling). Remember heat rises, the flame will simply melt the wax above and run down into the melt pool and drown out the wicks or continue to tunnel.

Please follow candle manufactures directions to avoid this happening with any candle from any manufacture.

    Q.  What does triple scented mean?

    A.  Triple scenting is using 3 times more fragrance oil in a candle than is typically used by others.  The typical candle is made using 1/2 oz of Fragrance Oil for every 1 lb of wax, Here at Little Mac's Candles we use the maximum amount of Fragrance Oil 1 1/2 oz for every 1 lb of wax.  This ensures that your triple scented candle delivers the highest levels of fragrance for your enjoyment.

    Q.  Why after a couple of hours of burning do certain candles seem to lose their fragrance?

    A.  Most likely only the top surface of the candle was scented! At Little Mac's Candles the entire wax batch is blended with our highly concentrated fragrance oils and color. This assures even and constant fragrance discharge throughout the life of the candle.

    Q.  How come when I take the lid off my candle it does not smell as strong as what I anticipated, but when I burn the candle it smells really strong?

    A.  This is actually a good thing .Our candles do not sit on shelves for months before you purchase them. We hand pour your candles when you place an order, our candles are packaged shortly after the candle is finished and is sent right out to you.

Most of the time you are receiving a candle from us that is only a couple of weeks old.  This hardly enough time for the scent to accumulate under the lid compared a candle that has been sitting on a shelve for 3 or more months.  At Little Mac's Candles we thoroughly mix our fragrances within the wax.  This assures that the fragrance is captured within the very structure of the candle and releases the fragrance while burning the candle when the wax liquefies.

    Q.  Why is there a thin metal wire in the center of the wick?

    A.  Here at Little Mac's Candles we use either EPA approved zinc Cored wicks or Cotton wicks in our candles. We DO NOT under any circumstances use lead wicks in any candle that we make.

The metal wire in the center of the wick is Zinc; we use Zinc Core wicks because it solves quite a few common problems

First, it helps the wick to remain standing straight and centered while the candle is lit, preventing an uneven or crooked burn.

Second, it prevents the wick from falling over and drowning in the melted pool of wax .  This way you are ensured that you will not be left with a candle that you can not relight.

Last but not least, how many of us have accidentally broken the wick off too short while trying to light a candle? The zinc in the center will not break too short ,you can trim your wick to the precise length with out the risk of breaking too much off .We recommend that you trim the wicks before you light it with scissors, wick trimmers or nail clippers will work too.
